Singer Eddy Kenzo has Tuesday this week,praised Women for the vital role they play in transforming Communities at the mega festival ‘Girls Fest’ held at Kabale Municipal stadium.
Upon stepping on stage,the ‘Stamina’ hitmaker couldn’t hesitate to praise ladies,saying they are wonderful.
“Girls are pearls, ladies are rubies, mothers are Mulders and women are wonderful. I feel blessed to be part of ‘girl child festival’ in Kabale,” said Eddy Kenzo.
The all-day event brought together young people, artistes, and women leaders among others to celebrate girl and women empowerment under the theme, “Gains from Equality.”
It provided a platform for partners to share their interventions, good practices and successes emerging from their work on gender equality.
There were exhibitions on different products and services, discussions on key topics like Gender Based Violence, Life skills, and male involvement in women empowerment.
The festival had lots of fun and games, ranging from dance competitions, Music performances, yard and board games among others.
Speaking at the Festival, Humphrey Nabimanya, the Founder and Team Leader of RAHU, highlighted the positive strides that have been made towards women and girl empowerment and called for continued championing of gender equality.
“Our hope for this Girls’ Festival is that it will stimulate the much needed discussion on gender issues. This Girl Fest should serve as a reminder that we need to take a holistic approach to Women and Girl empowerment, including preventing violence against women and girls, protecting their sexual and reproductive health rights, improving girls’ access to education, and enabling women to participate in political processes,” Nabimanya said.
Revelers were surely kept entertained throughout the day and the event was climaxed at about 4Pm, with performances from Uganda’s top artists Navio, Eddy Kenzo, Lydia Jasmine, Geosteady, Spice Diana, Nina Roz and Nutty Neithan among others that left the crowds begging for more.
There was also a showcase from international artists, Micheal Franti and Swrap
Regan Nowamani, the Director Entutsi Resort, who was the brain behind the event, revealed that the festival was aimed at creating awareness amongst the girl child.”
He added that “Free medical services like HIV testing & counseling, Breast cancer screening, Kidney screening, Blood pressure checkup, Eye care, Blood donation, Family planning among others ,were provided to those who attended the festival.
